How does the flour mill process the outer layer of the raw grain?

As raw grain for flour mills becomes contaminated with impurities during daily harvesting, drying, transportation and other processes, it necessitates surface treatment to prevent these contaminants from entering the finished product and compromising quality. How exactly does a flour mill process the surface of raw grain?

Firstly, within the entire milling process, cleaning should be logically scheduled after screening and de-stoning. This effectively prevents excessive impurities later on from causing significant wear on the sieve plates.

Secondly, surface cleaning for the milling machine can be divided into two stages. Initially, before wheat is moistened, gentle beating is employed due to its low moisture content and susceptibility to breakage. Following moistening, more vigorous beating is applied.

Additionally, integrating threshing equipment with suction systems during mill operation enhances cleaning efficiency.

The flour content and particle size distribution of incoming material are determined by the design of the high-frame flat screen, screen frame, and mesh configuration. Should the feedstock fail to meet specifications, adjustments should be made accordingly. Feed material must be evenly distributed across the full width of the screen surface. If this requirement is not met, first verify the horizontal level of the screen body; then adjust the feed gate. The gate opening should ideally be uniform, but may be adjusted based on material distribution across the screen width – reducing openings where material is concentrated and increasing them where sparse.
